Going Barefoot in Your Basement

6/01/2017

We're continuing our Barefoot series this week! While we've covered Going Barefoot in the Bedroom, Going Barefoot in Your Bathroom, Going Barefoot in Your Kitchen, and Going Barefoot in Your Living Room, this week we are going to discuss Going Barefoot in Your Basement. There are many different possible uses for a basement - game/media room, indoor bar, storage, personal gym, home office, guest suite, basement apartment, etc. Whatever your use may be, it's important to understand what types of flooring may WORK or NOT WORK for your basement.

Basement Flooring Do's

The good thing about adding flooring to your basement is almost anything will work and you may find it here at our flooring store in Osage Beach. The main thing you may want to consider is choosing a floor type than can withstand moisture. Possible suggestions may include:

  • Epoxy Floor Coatings
Epoxy will dry thick and hard and can give you a nice, shiny/sleek look to whatever hard floor you may choose for you basement.

  • Ceramic Tile
Ceramic tiles come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. There are also many types, which may include waterproof, mosaic, ribbed, vitrified, quarry, saltillo, terra-cotta, earthenware, or stoneware. These can be great in your basement because they can resist moisture.

  • Vinyl Tile
Vinyl tile can be a great choice for you basement due to its low cost, durability, and ease of maintenance. Peel-and-stick vinyl can be installed over materials quickly and easily.

  • Engineered Wood Flooring
Engineered wood can sometimes be called composite wood. This is wood that has been manufactured by binding different strands or boards of wood together with adhesives. Engineered wood can be a great choice for your basement due to its level of moisture resistance. It can give your basement an updated look and feel.

  • Rubber Flooring
For those of you who are considering adding a personal gym to your basement, rubber floors can be the way to go! They offer a nice cushion if you were to accidentally drop a weight. You will also find that rubber flooring is quite affordable and easy to install.

Basement Flooring Don'ts

You may want to avoid solid hardwood flooring and laminate flooring made with a fiberboard core that hasn't been treated for moisture resistance. Both of these types of flooring can absorb moisture and warp/buckle. Carpet can also be a poor choice due to the risk of it getting wet and molding.

Barefoot Floors can help you no matter what type of flooring you choose. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff can assist you in finding affordable flooring at the Lake of the Ozarks, that works best for YOU and YOUR FAMILY. Come by and see us, we look forward to your visit!
