The Best Flooring to Have with Pets

6/09/2017

While there are many choices of flooring out there, it can be difficult to know which are pet friendly floors at the Lake of the Ozarks. Our furry friends are very cute and great company, but accidents do happen! It's important to know what your best options for flooring are, when owning a pet. We are going to discuss a few great options that can make your life easier when owning a pet that resides indoors. We're also going to point out a couple flooring options that aren't so great for pets.

Good Choices

Bamboo

Bamboo flooring can be a great choice for pets. It's harder than hardwood and works well in high traffic areas. It is stain resistant, so when your fur pal has an accident, we all know it happens, this type of floor can be better to have. Bamboo is very hard and it will save you money in the long run when compared to repairing other types of flooring.

Cork

Cork is a good, environmental choice due to its antimicrobial type that will help reduce the growth of mold and other allergens. Cork is a scratch resistant, durable choice for your furry friends that like to scratch. Please note that discoloration will happen with this flooring over time when exposed to sunlight.

Stone tile

Stone tile flooring at the Lake of the Ozarks is fantastic for pets! It does not scratch easily and scratches don't show up the same way they do with other types of flooring. As we've said before, pet have accidents sometimes. With stone tile flooring, you don't have to worry about the impact it will have on the floor as much.

Vinyl

You may not think vinyl at the Lake of the Ozarks would be very pet friendly, but the new luxury vinyl flooring is a good choice. It's scratch and stain resistant, low in allergens and easy to clean. It's even quiet to walk across!

Poor Choices

Carpet

If you are a pet owner and it resides indoors, carpet is a poor choice to make. It can become easily damaged by pets. If you have to get carpet due to it being cost effective, you should get carpet without loops. Your pet's nails can get caught on the loops, not only possibly injuring your pet, but causing your carpet to wear and tear faster.

Hardwood

While many people covet hardwood floors at the Lake of the Ozarks for their homes, it's not the best choice for pets. Their urine can stain the wood and cause it to smell. Even if it is cleaned up quickly, it call still seap into the wood causing further issues. Hardwood is also easily scratched. if you do have hardwood and own pets, make sure their nails are trimmed consistently. You'll also want to consider the water bowl. Water bowls are easily knocked over and once the moisture is absorbed into the wood it can swell and then shrink once the water has been released.
