After you've chosen the perfect flooring for your home - what next? Now it's time to get your new floors installed! Of course, it's not always as easy as a snap of your fingers. With many flooring types, you'll have to adhere and install them to your subfloor in some way. Barefoot Floors is here to help you with all of your flooring needs, from choosing out the best type of flooring to helping you know what products to clean it with. Here are a few things you need to know about flooring adhesives for the flooring that you've chosen.

Carpet

Underneath your carpet, you'll want to have a quality carpet padding. This will ensure that you have plenty of cushioning underneath your feet. Your carpeting will be attached to the floor with tack strips along the walls of your room. You may also need to have glue or seam tape to secure all edges of your carpeting. There are also certain carpet types that require an adhesive, like the types of flooring that you see in commercial venues.

Tile

There are two primary types of adhesives for ceramic tile flooring. Thinset mortar and pre-mixed adhesives are the two types you'll need to know about. If you're putting tile on the floor of a room or shower you'll want to use the thin set mortar. You'll have to mix it with water, but it is more durable for these surfaces and water resistant. If you're doing tile on a vertical surface, you'll want to use a pre-mixed adhesive. The tile can adhere to this faster, keeping the tiles from falling.

Laminate

There are some varieties of laminate that can be glued down, but most laminate floorings are floating floors. When you get a floating laminate flooring, you'll want to find out if it has attached underlayment or if you'll need to purchase this separately.

Vinyl

Many vinyl flooring will require an adhesive to secure it down to the subfloor, though some are floating floors and won't require this. It's important to know exactly what type of flooring that you are getting ahead of time as this can alter your cost and install process. If you live in an older home, you will also have to take into account that you may need to lay a new layer of underlayment or level the floor with a floor leveling cement or compound.
